"La Cana Golf Course is my latest #1 favorite golf course in the world and I have played and/or visited 13 of the top 100 courses in the world. Credit P.B.Dye's wisdom for this awe inspiring 18 holes of design perfection. Dye will test your mental game with 14 holes where you view the ocean water. Expect that your performances will be enhanced due to the aesthetics. All of your senses are brought to life to the fullest. The sparkling turquoise ocean with the gentle rippling waves create a relaxing atmosphere that makes you feel and play great. The gentle waves constantly rolling into shore creates a soothing back drop. You hear the waves on several holes that seems to regulate your heart beat and help your rhythm. You will set as your targets, palm trees that seem to sway in the distance as if they are applauding your excellent strokes. The variety of holes keeps you awake and alert to stay in the present moment.
The design overall is configured such that you rarely see anyone else on the course, further relaxing your state of mind. The conditioning of the course is superb. The island green on 12 is a challenge and a fun diversion that recreates the experience of the 17th hole at The Player's Championship on the PGA Tour. I landed my shot in the sand that circles the hole and got up and down for par. 17th and 18th are sea side holes that resemble Pebble Beach. On a windy day, expect to see kite boarders ripping-it-up just off coast. The pace of play was ideal perhaps because we played in the early afternoon and most people lace up early in the morning. It was, the most enjoyable day I have EVER had on a golf course. Think golf on a deserted island paradise.
